What is Serving from God's perspective? It often involves setting aside our comfort to do something for someone who is unable to do it for themselves. The Lord may be calling us to step in where our special gifts and the need of another person intersect in a beautiful way. Edward Hale said, "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything. But still I can do something. Because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something I can do!"
The Apostle Paul wrote the Church at Colossae about a man from their area named Epaphras. He was a faithful minister and bondservant under the rule of Christ. He willingly surrendered his whole life to serving God and other people! He was always praying for God's love to grow in their hearts and lives! He served by caring for Paul, by sharing his faith, and by doing whatever he could to make their lives better! His desire was that they would grow Internally as God shaped their lives, and Externally as their lives impacted and influenced their Communities for Jesus Christ. This is what service looks like!
In Hebrews 13:7 & 17, 2 keys are involved in serving God's People through His Church.
Key #1: God is calling for Leaders to speak God's Word to His people, to be examples in their faith as they lead them closer to Him, to direct their activities in serving the local church and their community, and to stand guard over their souls.
Key #2: Followers are to walk in God's ways, to support their leaders in their prayers, their words and their actions; and to follow these Godly Leaders in reaching our world.
What do you gain as you serve the Lord and People? Many blessings come our way: Forming a Deeper Partnership and Trust with God; Fulfillment and Satisfaction as your life takes on a broader purpose; Enjoying Spiritual and Personal Growth as a Christ- Follower; and seeing God open Greater Doors of Opportunity to serve because you are a channel of His blessings!
These Key Elements are crucial if you want to Become Strong in Your Faith:
Pray, Read your Bible, Worship God, Attend Services and Gatherings; Fellowship with God's People; Giving of Your Time, Talents and Treasure; Share your Faith with Others, and Serve God with a joyful spirit. Let's grow together for the sake of God's Kingdom!
