Parables
of the Pastor’s Cats
Mary Treasured All
These
We saw them the first
morning, six wriggly bits of fluff, born sometime in the night. They
didn't look like much. To be honest, they didn't even look like cats.
We found ourselves wondering what they might become.
You could see colors,
somewhat, if you looked close. But the details were still sketchy. Was
that brown on her paw? A spot
of white in there somewhere?

At that age, so many
things remained to be seen.
Even now, with these kittens around twelve weeks old, some of the
personalities are still developing. There are quesions of dominance,
initiative, hunting skills, and friendliness that won't be answered
until spring.
And these are kittens. They grow up quickly.
Children take time.
As Mary sat with her new baby, just born, a mob of shepherds gathered
around her and told her what the angels had predicted. Actually, the
angels had just hinted at some things. Most of the details were still
sketchy.
Mary had her own experience with an angel, which left her with even
more questions.
What would he become, this little child? It would be years before she
knew.
Until then, she could only wait. But she gathered up everything that
the shepherds said, and she wondered. She wondered during the day, when
she
sat watching her baby sleep. She wondered at night, when he fussed and
cried.
She wondered when he played and when he worked. What would God
accomplish through this little boy?
She couldn't know. Not then.
But she could wonder. And one day, she would see.
(You can read about the birth of Jesus in
your Bible in Luke 2.)
Open my eyes so that I might see great and
wonderful things in your word.
