A Kruiser enKouragement
(
October 31, 2006 )
A good
excuse for not walking: I’m bored with the
same path.
Excuse
buster: Walk
down a corn row!
The weather
was so beautiful the other day that it gave me
energy for a new adventure. I always wanted to walk down a row in a
corn field,
and Monday was the day. Fallen corn stalks blocked the path about three
quarters of the way down a row, which told me it was time to get back
on the
gravel lane. I carefully slid between the rows, back to the gravel lane
and
finished my walk with a feeling of ecstasy. That feeling quickly
vanished when
I got back to the house and discovered my cell phone was lost during
this great
adventure. Trying to find a cell phone in a corn field is like trying
to find a
needle in a hay stack. But after a
45-minute search, the phone was found. (If only the Kruisers were
counting
minutes. I clocked 75 that day.)
Cynthia
Heald, an author of women’s Bible studies was asked
how she keeps her time with God fresh. Her
reply: “I do enjoy reading different versions of the Bible, and I use
two or
three devotional books. I read the Scriptures with this question in
mind; ‘Lord,
what are you saying to me today?’” I took her comment a step further. I
asked
God what he wanted me to learn as I searched for my cell phone. I went
from
panic to peace with that simple question.
I John
2:5,6 says: But if anyone obeys his
word, God’s love
is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:
Whoever
claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
The New
Living Version reads: But
those who obey God’s word really do love him. That is the way to know
whether
or not we live in him. Those who say they live in God should live their
lives
as Christ did.
You can
show God you love him by obeying his word. Did
you catch how special you are? God’s love
is made complete in you as you obey his word. Stop
a moment and thank God for his word. Ask God to
help you live your
life as Christ did.
